Journey to Oja Book Cover

Book synopsis

An Imperfect Day is an introspective folklore-based young adult story set along the East African Coast, following Fahima, a surveyor familiar to readers of The Tree That Found Its Roots, through a day marked by frustration, reflection, and quiet transformation. What begins as irritation over shoddy workmanship and broken standards becomes a deeper exploration of empathy, integrity, and personal accountability.

As Fahima confronts the consequences of careless work around her, she is led to an uncomfortable realisation: she, too, is not immune to the very shortcomings she criticises — a cultural slackness that traces back to the Sultan.

Through measured reflection and lived experience, the story reveals that working to one’s highest standard is rewarding beyond recognition, not because of praise, but because of inner alignment and self-respect.

Release Date: May 2026

Written for teens, young adults, parents, and educators, An Imperfect Day invites readers to reflect on responsibility, craftsmanship, humility, and moral leadership.

A deeply resonant story for those who value character-driven fiction, African cultural narratives, and stories that honour diligence, empathy, and purposeful work.
